"As with other things I have recieved from L.L. Bean, this was much more than I expected. Really a heavy nylon fabric and sturdy zippers. Its a quality piece that would serve you well at the office, on a plane, about town or as a weekend man bag that you can throw all your stuff in. Camera, lunch, sunglasses, small shopping or whatever. No more "Honey put this in your purse for me"!!!!"

"This briefcase was a pleasant surprise after handling it upon arrival. This rugged case more space than expected and it feels as solid as it looks as well as being handsomely designed inside and out. It's an excellent choice for a replacement or someones very first briefcase. In the process of getting a couple more for Christmas gifts."

"I bought this bag with the intention of using it as a daily briefcase to the office and travel. It has certainly not let me down. There is so much room in the briefcase - so much so that I have yet to fill it despite my attempts to do. It carries well (I prefer to hold it by the handles as opposed to the shoulder strap) and is a far cry from the boring old brown leather briefcases everyone seems to have. I should note that I DO NOT carry a laptop in my bag but I do think you could easily fit one in there on the fly."

Fantastic except for...,

"...the top zipper. It is not quite waterproof. If it had a flap over the top zipper, it would be a five star bag. Other than that I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fully functioning sharp looking brief case that COULD hold a laptop but was not specifically designed for it. This was the big selling point for me. My laptop case was just too heavy with all of the "Stuff" I had to carry. Having this as a second brief case that I can carry on my other shoulder or by the handles it a great relief to my back. Since it does look so good and function so well, I enjoy just taking this with me when the laptop can stay home."

"This is a really well-made, handsome bag. It was a gift for my husband, who loves it. The sage color is really olive green, and it looks very smart with the british tan trim. Roomy bag, fits all his stuff without looking overstuffed and sloppy. Highly recommended product."

"I don't know how Bean stays in business--nothing, including this briefcase, ever seems to wear out! I had this bag's predecessor for more than 10 years when I finally decided to replace it with this newer version and it's very handsome, especially with monogramming, looks good with everything, and is water-resistant. The only thing I miss from the earlier version is the interior divider, but inserting file folders makes up for its absence. The zip-enlarging feature is great when you need some extra room. Would be a great gift, too."

"I chose the Sportsman's Deluxe Briefcase after looking at several types. My daily briefcase is a hardside case but I wanted a flexible case with losts of pockets for air travel. This case fit the bill. The outside pocket was perfect for my passport and wallet. The inside compartments were just the right size for ipods, phones, books and pdas. I highly recommend the briefcase."

"I bought this briefcase as a gift for my boyfriend who is a beginning teacher. He loved it! Its durable- very heavy duty- stain resistant and all of the compartments are very useful. Best of all, it was delivered very quickly and it was still returnable even after I had his initials put on it. Its expandable and can hold all his text books and personal items. "Very nice quality. Nice hardware and storage capacity. I like the fact that my laptop and sleeve fits perfectly. Expands to accomodate larger loads. Two minor issues - the contoured shoulder pad is not as comfortable as it looks and the Velcro strip across the top of the back panel is annoying. Perhaps this should be replaced with a zipper instead. Otherwise, an excellent bag. Worth the extra bucks over those found in luggage stores, etc."

"I checked the briefcases at LLBean to find another wonderful "ballistic" briefcase like the one we ordered a years or so ago in dark green, but couldn't find it, so ordered the Sportsman. My husband is using it as a gym bag, but it doesn't have easily accessible zippered pockets for the plastic key, padlock, earphones, etc. one carries. (The 'ballistic" briefcase is now his main briefcase, nice & stiff for documents. It had been a wonderful gym bag, too. One doesn't always need a soft bag."
