I purchased these for snowshoeing and xc skiing. My order came a day early (Thanks LL Bean...always a pleasure). I wore them for my traditional Christmas morning snowshoe trek which was in 0 degree temps this year. They were warm, comfortable and kept me dry (even after a tumble when a drift gave way) I would recomend them to anyone that wants a pair of fitted but not tight pants for any nordic sport or even running.
I wanted pants to run, bike, snowshoe, and cross country ski in. These pants are made of stretchy polypropylene that is very wind-resistent and warm. Down to 30 degrees, no base layer is needed when doing active winter sports. The stetchiness allows for good freedom of motion. It is pretty much an ideal pant except for being fairly pricey.
Fitment: I usually buy medium pants and large tops. Because of the reviews here, I decided on large pants and am glad I did. Length was perfect. The form fitting nature of these pants makes going one size up for room for a base layer or if you have muscular legs, a good choice. Curiously, going one size up did not translate to pants being too long--I think they are perfect.
Nice fitting not too tight. Drawstring at waist makes for a perfect fit. I'm 6'3" 235lbs and the XL tall is a perfect fit. I like the fact that they are not skin tight and just alittle baggy unlike most x-country pants.
I've been wearing these while skiing through the end of a Fairbanks winter. They have been great in 0 to 10 above weather without any long underwear underneath. I've been wearing them up to freezing comfortably. Feel like they would probably keep me comfortable down to 10 below without anything else.
I was worried about them being too tight/form fitting. I was on the edge of large/XL sizing so I bought the XL. Definitely not to tight this way, perhaps just a little baggy but for me I think the large would be a little tight. Biggest problem for me is that the XL size is too long.
Would definitely recommend these and look forward to trying them out in some 20-30 below weather next season
