These were not what I had in mind for my son's cross country skiing. The fabric looks as if it would snag easily and doesn't appear to be very waterproof or repellant. I returned them. I think they run large too.
I have had these for over a year and I like them so much I bought another pair. They are comfortable, warm, dry and true to size. I have worn them in the snow, hiking, running, biking and skiing and the soft lining prevents chaffing and wicks moisture. Likewise they really repel water well even during a recent bike ride in a steady rain AND they dry quick too! A must for any outdoor enthusiast.
Nice pants, with two front zipper pockets, no rear pocket. Very slender fit. I'm 6' tall, 165 lbs, and found them a very slender fit, almost too slender around the hips and thighs (size Medium, Tall).
I wore them to shovel snow this morning; the temperature was 32'F. My upper body was very warm (sweating a little), but my legs were a little cool. I'm going to trade them in for insulated pants because I get cold easily.
The tag says they're good from 0'F to 40'F when you're active, but I think that's stretching it a bit.
Although from up north and accustomed to cold winter sports, here in Southwest Florida I had not expected to tackle cold weather endurance during my 6am 15mile bike rides. With temps from 34F to 55F and 20mph windchills, these Sporthill XC pants (3SP material) have never let me overcool or overheat, remained flexibly responsive to my 75-80 cpm cadence, and fit very comfortably as a second layer over gel pant biking shorts using a size Lg for a 36 waist / 34 inseam.
