Got my first pair, last year from my husband for Christmas. Wore them all the time in the cold and snow. Used them for horseback riding, in snow, and barn chores. THEY are the best! All the other girls in the barn are going to get some, they wick the water, wash easily, hang to dry, and ready to go again. Not just for men, the cut allows, different types of underlayering, according to the weather, all with freedom of movement. You should market these for the best pants in winter award.
I am new to winter hiking, and usually, previous attempts were in a pair of sweat pants or jeans with long underwear as first layer. But, I usually froze, especially, if there was a breeze. But, this year's new resolution was to hike more often and that means getting out when the Colorado weather isn't the best.
Ordered these pants based on product description as the "choice of guides and instructors." Also, they were made out of the same 3SP fabric that I saw listed in much more expensive pants.
When I got them I have to be honest that I thought they would never perform as advertised -- they did not look like the bulky, or windproof, and certainly not warm. Way too thin. Thinking maybe Bean's so called guides tested these in the last Vegas snowstorm.
I put them on. My wife said, "So, THOSE are your new, winter hiking pants. Your gonna freeze." OK, buyer pride is involved now, so out the door I went into a windy, snowy night.
On top I was wearing thermal shirt, fleece, wind jacket, gloves, wool beanie. On bottom, only the LLB pants.
Amazing! Did not get cold at all and couldn't even feel the wind. Performed so well that I actually stopped on a windy hilltop unzipped the pants to expose skin (from the side ankle zips up, dear readers). Yep, very cold out there. Took them out again the next morning in no wind, damp, icy, fog. Same.
Wonderful pants for the price, buy a pair, hike more.
My husband hasn't tried these out yet...but, I thought from the description that these were ski pants - it's more like a lining...I'm not sure if they're waterproof - so it looks like we're going to have to buy another pair to wear over them.
