This is the third pair of Sporthill pants I’ve bought for him. They wear quite well, pill a bit and attract stuff, but overall are very useful winter pants as an outer layer for snow shoe walking or xc skiing.
I bought these to use while cycling in 30F and below temps. I wear padded liners for mountain bike shorts underneath. With some over the calf socks and wind proof shoes, my legs and feet have been quite warm even on very cold days. And they look nice enough to wear as normal pants at a cafe or pub after the ride.
I wanted some less bulky pants for winter that would stop the wind so the description of these fit the bill. They are a bit pricey for what they are but the wool alternatives are getting into the bulky category. So these are super light weight and appear prone to pilling (some reviews cite that as an issue). The design is very simple with a basic draw string waist with elastic. Hmm. But about the size: I also purchased a Women's size Small for my wife and that pair is almost exactly the same size as my Men's Medium! How can that be? So the description of a most relaxed fit is utterly wrong- these are form-fitting sports pants and for me form-fitting enough I can't get long underwear beneath them without frustration and I am no way over-size or over-weight or have a super athletic build. This may be the LL Bean purchase this year I have to use the satisfaction guarantee with and therefore I'm keeping the receipt handy. I do not recommend these for men of normal/average size unless you size up, way up.
Sporthill XC Pants are excellent heavy weight active wear pants. I use them for running on cold windy days. Blocks wind and keeps legs warm. Have washed several times with no issues of pilling, or shrinkage Highly recommend!
