King Dome is best in it's class of tent/screen room combo. The poles do split however, we replaced them with aluminum poles from the pole company that L L Bean referred us to. The 3rd King Dome that L.L. Bean replaced for us came with a surprise, a zipper door shield that covers the front door. WELL DONE! The foot print is a must for bug control. We have camped in remote areas and never once has the tent ever leaked in down pours. Our dog uses the back vestibule as a perfect dog shelter, keeps the dog dry and we are husky hair free!
We read the customer reviews from 2008 and agonized -- the King Pine Dome tent had everything we wanted and more, except we were concerned about the screen room. Reviewers talked about the screen room leaking in the front (the rain fly covered the sides of the screen room but not the front door).
We ordered the King Pine Dome tent anyway, figuring the screen room would be just that and we'd still be completely dry in the tent portion. We were surprised and pleased when we set up the tent and realized that LL Bean had modified the design for 2009. The screen room is now completely protected by the rain fly on both sides and the front too.
Well done, LL Bean! Thank you for listening! You may want to update the website photos of this tent to show the modified rain fly, so there is no confusion. As with your other excellent products, we're looking forward to enjoying this wonderful tent with our kids for many years to come. Thank you!
We used this tent while camping for two weeks in Virgina at which point, there was a severe thunder/rain storm. The covers that came with this tent kept us and our things dry, its comfortable, it breathes well, even in humid weather, the little sitting area is great, the bugs stay out and the clip for the lantern works well and you feel confident knowing it isn't going to fall. Easy set up, easy take down, easy storage, fits well in the back of the Wrangler and in the storage closet. Worth every penny.
This tent is the greatest investment we ever made.
It survived 30 degree weather. It survived 40 mph winds without so much as a flap of the rainfly.
I love this tent.
We were warm, wind free, rain free and happy. Its spacious, the side pockets are a nice added touch- the screened in porch to sit in was wonderful. This tent survived the desert and we are about to test it out in the mountains. I can't wait to try it- I know its going to be the best! I am also staying in this tent for 6 weeks straight for animal research in the wild. I am going to have the Hilton of tents!
It says 6- but whatever the number is subtract two on tents for the "comfortable" number of people that it can sleep. All of the screen options and amazing durable fabric is what makes this tent MORE than worth it. I would recommend to anyone anywhere!
