This is an improved version of the original King Pine, with better coverage over the screenroom. I have the original. It has a large footprint which could be problematic in some campsites. The fly coverage is excellent. Ventilation with the fly is restricted. Difficult for one person to set-up but no problem for two. The poles are long! Good value.
My wife and I got this tent last year when our LLB hex dome ripped. This one is even better than the old dome. The fly goes right to the ground and she stayed dry even during a Moosehead thunderstorm. We found it a might small for our queen air mattress so we're getting a 6-man to camp with and saving the small one for I don't know what..maybe we'll just set it up in the back yard and gawk at it.
I started camping with a tent 35 years ago. Then a pop-up, trailer and now back to a tent. This tent offers the comfort level that I got used to and the ease of tenting and traveling without hauling too much from home. We are back to tenting and my wife and I are very pleased with having our reading area free from bugs and our sleeping area dry and accommodating.
I love this tent. My family took a recent trip to Vermont and had to weather some serious rainstorms. We stayed cozy and dry. We used the screen room to store our muddy boots and to act as an "airlock" to keep the mosquitoes out of the sleeping area. It's tall enough to stand up in, which we appreciated when we had to get dressed for a wedding during a thunderstorm.
