We have 2 of the pint size to make plenty for our family of 5 in different flavors. The kids love making their own ice-cream while camping. The balls have held up well over the years. (We did crack one... learned it can't be used like a soccer ball!) Works best if you open half way through and scrape sides. This is a good time to put in chunky additions like chocolate chips and nuts. We also add more salt and ice as it melts for faster freezing time. Overall fun and sturdy product.
The Ice-cream ball was a granddaughter gift request for Christmas! I ordered it by phone, as my laptop was o the blitz at the time of ordering. Very pleased with the service and assistance and the item was shipped free and on time as promised. Great way to shop and I will return to this site again!
As for the item itself, my granddaughter was thrilled and we will soon be ordering another for her sister's birthday next month.
I saved gas, time on the road, and the stress of shopping in crowds during the cold and flu season. I'm one happy grandma!!!!!
Me and my children have been very pleased with this ice cream maker... and believe me, we're serious about our ice cream! If you follow the instructions, you will get good home-made ice cream. Is it perfect? No. First, the ice has to be pretty small to fit into the pint size ice-hole. I've had to warn my kids not to try to force the bigger pieces of ice down into the hole as this will likely crack or break the ball. Second, the plastic handle they provide to tighten and loosen the screw-lids needs to be handled with care so you don't break it. It's a great tool, but you can't force it or I fear it could snap, but if you don't use too much pressure it works just fine. Lastly, even though the plastic ball feels pretty solid and well made, I do need to remind the kids not to play too rough with it... otherwise it could get cracked or broken. Roll it only on soft surfaces (carpet, grass, etc.) Don't drop it on a hard surface or hurl it at each other like a football. It's pretty rugged, but not indestructible. Other than these minor issues, it's been a lot of fun. Best of all, it teaches everyone how to make great tasting ice cream with natural ingredients.
