The L.L. Bean name is synonymous with quality hunting clothes from Katadin Maine to the Blue Ridge Mountains, I've Deer and Bear hunted in these sweaters for 35 years. Still hunting or in a tree stand they keep the wind out and the body warmth in. It's 100% wool and packs well- good price too. It is hard to find this sweater and Thanks LLB for keeping it in the starting lineup. Also looks great with a quality blue blazer and oxford.
Bought the black one last year and the sable heather one this year. The fit is spot on, very well-made and is one durable and warm sweater. Hope L. L. Bean will keep this style for as long as possible I will definitely get another one in the future. Thanks for the fast shipping also. Keep up with the nice quality!!
Great sweater, with one minor persnickety thing...

I have worn and loved Commando sweaters for at least 25 years. As expected, this one is warm and well-made, and the sizing, (XL) is spot on. The color, Navy Heather is very attractive. I am 6'1", 220 lbs, with 35-36"+ arms. and the sleeves are long enough! Worn with a turtleneck, with my field jacket and liner over, good to about the mid-teens. One minor point, which is not enough to reduce my rating to a 4: the sleeve patches just barely cover the point of my elbow. On my old, (other brand) real commando sweater, the patches continue up my arm at least 2-3 inches beyond the point of my elbow, a feature which I do appreciate, and find useful.
.Extending the patches would be a minor detail, and I recognize this is a "fashion commando" sweater, but is something I think would would increase the durability of an already excellent product..If it increased the cost $.50, I wouldn't mind at all.
Thicker and more substantial than your average wear-with-jeans crew sweater. Not as heavy as a traditional Norwegian sweater, but really nice and warm. Great for an office in an old building with a heater that doesn't quite keep up with the negative temps outside! As for fit, the large (regular length) is great. I'm 6'1" and 195. I thought about getting the Long, but I'm glad I went with the regular. Even the regular seems just a bit on the long side -- probably just enough over-long to hedge against any wash-related shrinkage.
