After I got used to the trimmer style, I've enjoyed this sweater. Back in the previous century, I "acquired" the military version made in England for the USMC and wore it daily in my work in the US Embassy (Northern Europe).
This version is more urbane, more "tame" (in terms of bulk) and the fit took some getting used to--but it's still a handsome style, and quite warm into the upper 30s or so! My first one, a "gift" from the US government, is still running around on the West Coast (my son took it to CA), and I hope this one lasts as long!
This is a well made sweater, warm and attractive. The shoulder and elbow patches provide a bit of "slickness" at the usual bind points, helpful for freedom of motion when this isn't the top layer.
Value? 100% Merino lambswool speaks for itself, generously cut, a close fit, but not tight.
Wonderfully warm and thick wool sweater. Very heavyweight construction, especially with the reinforced elbow and shoulder patches. Snug fit, but flattering and not uncomfortably tight; looks good tucked in, too. I personally prefer a long sleeve worn under the sweater. Overall, great value for a product that will last years.
