Very nice thick base layer for working.with a thin tshirt under it and a Fleece skullcap Had me plenty warm running a chainsaw cutting up firewood. @ 25 degrees. Guys it’s a tighter fitting sweater to stay warm in. I’m 210 pounds and 5’8” I had to get 2xL.
If only LL Bean offered this exact sweater in cotton instead of wool, we could have kept it!! But the wool was WAY too itchy, especially around the neck, for my husband. Wearing a shirt underneath wouldn't fix the problem, unless it was a turtleneck, which wouldn't look right and he won't wear turtlenecks anyway. It's such a shame because I absolutely love the style, and the fit and construction were perfect.
It certainly reminds of the days of WWII and the British SAS version. I love the fact it is 100% (rarity these days) and I am surprised of people complaining about the Deep Green Woods color when it is a historic color for this garment. Do your research before buying. Otherwise it is excellent quality, very warm and comfortable. I would agree with some comments here that a more relaxed fit would benefit the comfort, but one can buy a size up and roll up the sleeves, as customary with the commando sweaters,
The sizing is way off. I ordered a XXL, comfortably wear an XXL daily and there’s no way the sweater I received is larger than a medium! It says XXL on the tag, but this sweater does not size in any way related to reality. Frustrating!
