This is my second commando sweater. The first, probably ten years old, is still good, but I wanted a new one. Fits great and Is warm. I will use them both.
I originally bought the Loden Heather version of this. It was fantastic. The weight, fit, and cut were perfect. It was precisely the type of sweater I've wanted for a long time. I liked it so much I bought the gray version less than a week after the first arrived.
I have a wool commando style sweater made in England that a friend purchased from England many years ago. I enjoy wearing this old sweater while working in my woods. Compared to this sweater the LL Bean, size small, is about an 1 inch longer in the sleeves , 1.5 inches shorter in the waist, and narrower in the shoulders. I prefer the wider shoulders of the original but otherwise the LL Bean is a good fit for me (5' 5" tall, 135 lbs). The Loden is a very close color match to the original military green. The Merino wool of the LL Bean is much more comfortable against the skin. Only time will tell if it holds up as well as the original.
