i bought this for my wife in blue. she liked it very much. it keeps her warm to 30F with a medium weight wool sweater and a light shirt under. the construction is good but the wool is a bit lightweight so the necessity to supplement it with thinsulate as LLB does becomes evident. it has a good number of pockets most of which she will never use but which satisfied her demand for tradition. she gives it 4 stars i give it 3. 4 all in all for style.
I love this coat. It is functional and looks good too. I am an avid outdoors person and love my walks. This coat kept me warm even when the wind was blowing a gale, and the snow was blowing all around. I couldn't feel the wind at all through this coat. There are plenty of pockets, and it is long enough to cover my butt, so my back stayed very warm. The stitching was very good, I couldn't find any flaws. My only complaint is the collar. The coat is made with soft suede around the neck area, which was a great idea, but I wish they had put the suede on the side of the collar that is against your skin when you put the collar up when its windy and cold. Instead the scratchy wool is what is against your face when you put the collar up. Of coarse a nice soft scarf cures this issue, so I still love the coat. I am looking forward to many winters with this coat. Thanks LL Bean!
I had to return this jacket ONLY because it did not fit well. This jacket, however, is the MOST beautiful jacket I have owned and now not owned. Fabric and details are just the best, but I wear a medium in the old style barn jacket and this jacket is sized and cut more slim for some reason. I think it has an updated feminine effect... (urrgh) If I order the large, it will be way too big in the shoulders, I think... but if I get to a Bean store some day, I will try a large on.. way too expensive to send stuff back from Canada... I love(d) the jacket.
