I think Buck puts a bit more effort into the knives they make for LLBean. I have an old Buck 121 Fishknife (now discontinued) and this one is better finished all around. The 121 has a black phenolic handle just like the regular version of the Woodsman. The LLBean version with the stacked leather handle is so attractive, I'm reluctant to use it filleting fish and dressing small game the way it's meant to be used. The brown leather sheath with LLBean embossed on it also looks nicer that the black leather sheath of my old 121. I also prefer how the sheath snap opens from the side. The whole package looks better than in the pictures. I love it when that happens! My only criticism is a small one; I'd like the Buck company to have included something about how this particular knife is made, maybe with some factory pictures of the assembly. I also was pleased the the speed of delivery by LLBean.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Performing as Expected, looks good
I already have one in black.I just had to have the leather stacked one .Not sure why its described as only a small game and fish knife(though it is perfect for that)I use mine as my primary deer knife. It is the perfect size for field dressing .Its easy to control, lightweight and holds its edge.
I've had a little woodsman for over 30 years. Great for small chores. Great blade design. When i saw this stacked leather version, I kniew I had to have. it. Fits good in your hand.
I have been looking a long time for a replacement for my 1950's Boy Scout knife. This knife is the same, only not made by the same company. I am sure that this knife will out last me. Excellent quality. Excellent balance. Thanks for the memories.
