Have given this ice cream ball in the past as a family Christmas gift. This year it was requested by a family friend who wanted to join in the fun. The children love to "make" a treat for themselves while shaking the ball and passing it back and forth. I have tried to give each family a different colored ball so that when we are together the kids can identify theirs.
This is a great campfire toy/tool. I didnt tell the kids what it did or how it worked until we were done. The excitement and smiles on their faces was priceless. How could I ever make ice cream all the way out in the woods? My suggestion is to shake and shake and shake for about 20 minutes. Refill the ice and salt and let it stand for about 20 minutes. Then shake for another 5-10. We have found that letting it stand for a while helps it harden up to more of an ice cream consistency. Enjoy!
A year ago I purchased the pint size ice cream ball as a gift for a grandchild. He enjoyed it so much I purchased the qt size and used it with a group of children in my care. They loved the new rolling ball game and the end result. We just made vanilla for the first try and it was delicious. They are already asking to try other flavors. This would make an ideal gift for a family that has multiple children. Would be good for use at birthday parties for sure.
I have purchased the quart ice cream ball for my nephews in Alabama and my son living in Maine. The kids love the rolling and tossing to make the ice cream as well as the eating. I have eaten the ice cream and it's delicious. I grew up with the hand crank ice cream maker and the quart ball ice cream maker is much more fun. My son is much older than my nephews and uses it to make ice cream but also uses it to make some frosty adult drinks. The bright colors even make it a good treat in winter since it won't get lost in the snow. It's great for kids of all ages!
