I got the larger size because I wanted to be able to feed a bunch of kids (one pint of ice cream won't go far around here!). I'm not sure if the larger size is the reason it takes a while for the ice cream to thicken, but the larger size is definitely HEAVIER and quite a bit of work to toss or roll around; it is a workout to get your ice cream! Other than that, works as intended and seems well built to hold up over time.
I gave a similar review for the pint-sized ball, then found the correct listing here...sorry! This is a great thing for a party, and although your ice cream will require about 20 minutes or so of effort, it is oh, so worth it! I bought it for Pascha (Easter) for godchildren, and we had a blast eating our yummy ice cream. Use half-n-half or lighter cream; we used heavy cream & it was too "buttery" feeling in the mouth. But you'll be glad if you buy this!
This is a great product. We love ice cream and I (Mom) bought this gift for the family for Christmas. New Year's eve was the first time we used it. You need a good amount of ice, not just a few ice trays. We ended up using snow since we didnt have enough ice. Cream makes it taste better 1/2 and 1/2 makes it tastes like ice milk. Either way it is still yummy. Lots of recipes come with it, they are all easy, just cream, vanilla and sugar. The kids love to show their friends the ball and we have already used it again, we haven't even owned it a month yet. Lots of fun. We rolled it in our dining room. Make sure the lids are tight with just using your hands and keep tightening them both because little bits of ice cream came out, no biggie. You need to scrape the sides because the sides get frozen first.
