If you are concerned about sizing read this review!! I'm 6'-1", weigh 185 and have a 44 chest. I fit the sizing description for a Large Tall perfectly. This union suit shrinks considerably. I put it on before I washed it and it was HUGE! Correction, it was enormous!! I was concerned so I called LL Bean because I was worried I wouldn't be able to return it if I washed it. LL Bean said I could wash it and still return it if it doesn't fit. My advice: Call customer service and ask them for yourself. They are very nice and answer the phone quickly. Order per the sizing charts and wash per the instructions. As far as my review of the suit itself, it is super warm, the buttons do come undone easily, but so far it hasn't bothered me. It's very similar material to the river driver shirts which are absolutely awesome. It might be a little itchy for some, but it doesn't bother me. I love it. Hope this helps you make a decision.
I don't know who this was built for, but it ain't the standard 'large'. At 190lbs, I'm hardly small, yet this 'Large' sized union suit seems to have been built for a man who must weigh at least 250lbs. Were the dimensions based on Santa? The belly on this thing is HUGE! All I can hope for is that it shrinks, or I guess I could get it taken in.
Also, for a wool blend union suit, it doesn't seem all that warm.
Buyer beware! I advise people to go with at least one size down from what the size charts advise. And don't expect the super thin wool/cotton blend to do much more to keep you warm than similar 100% cotton union suits do.
To be honest, I expect better than this from L.L. Bean.
My husband loves these union suits. He is an RN in a hospital and he wears them under his uniform all winter. He is very active in his job and the one-piece style keeps them in place when he is reaching and bending. He normally wears a medium and that is the size of the first one we purchased. As others say, it is very baggy in the seat. He wanted a second one so we ordered a small. It fits fine in the seat but the buttons pull just a bit across the chest, however he is proportionately larger than average in his upper chest area. I asked him if we buy another which size he would prefer and he just shrugged and said either one is fine.
