When my wife and I were shopping for zip together sleeping bags, I was at a loss to find bags that were light / compact enough for me, and roomy enough for her. Most of the nice mummy bags don't allow a choice of which side the zipper is on, so finding zip-together solutions is hit and miss, and the bags are cut so narrow these days it would make uncomfortable quarters for two people. Zipping two matching rectangular sleeping bags together is a sure bet, (as long as they're not hooded) but with synthetic insulation, they run 4-7 pounds each, and don't compress for travel. Enter the LL Bean down rectangular bags. They're well designed, made from quality materials and carefully stitched. Awesome. The baffling is a little sparse, so you need to be diligent about chasing the down out of the corners of the down compartments before you bed down. That's the only potential problem. Ours are a couple years old, and they offered a 40 degree version then. We have one 40 degree and one 20 degree version. We put the one on top that's appropriate to the weather. Top end mummy bags are still lighter and smaller when stuffed. Don't expect a ton of respect from your fast and light friends. But these are manageable for backpacking or portaging. And two of these zipped together puts you in a queen size bed. Tell me the fast and light couples you know won't be a little envious of that. One other thought: Consider pairing one of the down bags with one of the synthetic ones (green) for underneath you, which, though bigger and heavier, could provide a little more comfort.
