I had a state trooper warn me about too much fishing equipment in the car. I thought putting rods in something like this would help make the back of the car look less like a rummage sale. It does. Handy for short two and three day trips too. I just wish it was a little longer — I have a couple of three-piece rods and the tubes are about four inches too long for the bag. Otherwise excellent all around.
I was not sure this would meet my needs as their are a lot of bags on the market to protect fly rods while traveling. This bag is much better than the others. It is very padded, put together with superior craftsmanship and is great looking. I expect that this bag is going to hold up great. It will hold 3 rod tubes and has ample room for fly boxes. I can easily put my fly tying vise and supplies in this as well. Its a hidden gem of a bag!
I got this for a fishing trip out west in Sept. but I can see using it all the time around home waters too. Very utilitarian and retro cool as well but then I use wood X cntry skiis and a bamboo fly rod. Only down side I see is that it is flexible and soft sided so rod tubes or PVC pipe stiffeners will be advisable if there is any chance of rough handling. Building the case with some sort of hard liners in the sides would be an improvement. There's enough space for all the reels, fly boxes, gadgets for my trip west or locally. It will go as carry on. As always Bean is a great company to deal with, never any hassles.
Great design and superb quality. I spent a lot of time searching for a case that would do it all and this is the one. Every detail was well thought out by someone who knew what was needed. Highly recommended, it will last you a lifetime!
