Handsome bag, but it looks like a copy of a competitor's signature style, not the worst thing in the world. Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of L.L.Bean. Their fly rods rank with the very best.
I liked the product but didn't love it like I thought I might. The main issue for me were that the external pockets are actually just zippered -- the buckle is strictly decorative and there's a magnet to pin the fake clasp down. The pockets are a little small for large arbor reeds, especially if they're in a case themselves.
Solid construction otherwise, but have to supply your own tubes for interior storage.
Will fit 2-3 rod tubes for 4 piece rods up to about 9' 6" long. Obviously can't store reels on the rods, so it ends up being a fiddly operation once you arrive at your destination. I like the reel on rod insert into pvc tube rod cases better, though I dig the waxed canvas.
Not a defective product or anything, but for the money it's not what I really want. Returning it -- and as always deeply appreciate LL Bean's customer service policy.
Really neat, retro look. Don't sweat the magnets as another reviewer mentioned, the compartments zip also, everything is secure. Measure your rod tube/case before ordering. If it is over 32" you will have issues. It is a little on the heavy side, but it has a nice shoulder strap which you will need when loaded. Nicely padded, but I don't know if I would trust it to protect delicate fly rod tips if not in a rod tube/case. It looks like your favorite shotgun case, only for your fly rods.
This item was advertised as a flyrod case, and it certainly will fit the bill, as it is large enough for at least four rod tubes to be stored within it held in place with elastic loops. The interior is quilted to provide some protection. It is not a hard case, thought I have never had any of my rods or reels damaged while being transported. I have recently begun transporting my three piece recurve bow in this case, as it fits nicely with room for a single rod tube. I often blend these two pastimes, fly fishing and bow hunting, and this case accommodates all of my outdoor tackle. The exterior pockets are magnet buttoned, but also have zippers to ensure nothing falls out. They are large enough for reels, fly boxes, leaders, small tools, shooting gloves, arm guards and broad heads. Excellent product LL Bean!
