Good General Purpose Jacket
PostedNovember 21, 2014
I am not using this for hunting. It's a very good jacket for rainy and windy weather. I ordered the usual XL Tall (mushroom) and it is a loose fit, I can wear a fleece sweater or other toasty layer underneath, and not feel like the kid in the Christmas Story. .The material crinkles when moving.
There is no insulation built in, so there's a good chance of using it in the wet summer months in NW. I like the mesh lining in the upper body and sleeves, it along with the goretex layer and the outside layer is enough for a lot of winter use.
As for pockets there are two handwarmers, two outside pockets with press stud closure, and inside a zipper pocket large enough for a wallet, and one for sun glasses with elastic closure if you trust it.
It weighs 2.2 lbs which is about 2/3 of my LL Bean parka with inside layer removed. I'd consider it lightweight and packs into a small space for travel.
The large pocket in the back is connected to a pocket in the front on the left accessed near the zipper, it might be useful for maps but not in an ideal location. The front access pocket might be useful for a water bottle/snack, or gloves/hat -you have to use it righthanded.
I think it's a good deal if you can get it at a large discount, otherwise it's too pricey.

Upland field coat, is a hit
PostedJanuary 17, 2014
Received this coat as a Christmas present. I have been out three times hunting in the late grouse season and so far the upland field coat is great. One early January day, temperature was in the 30s and raining. This Gore-Tex coat kept me dry and warm and allowed me to stay out hunting. It is turning briars very effectively in the grouse covers and allows me to go into those nasty places where the dogs always seem to find the birds. Although thin and lightweight, it is very warm. I have found that a down vest and this jacket are adequate even when the temps are in the 20s. Best features are the Gore-Tex waterproof/breathable lining and the ripstop tough fabric for turning briars. If you are a bird hunter, buy this coat.

Returned Item but received outstanding service
PostedDecember 18, 2013
Very stiff Gore-Tex, Not my cup of tea. The Jacket is listed as medium weight and while it has a lining, I would categorize it as light weight.
The jacket did not meet my expectations from the website description.
However, I returned to a nearby LL Bean store. The staff was helpful and pleasant. No hassle returning a mail order item to a bricks n' mortar store.

my go to coat
PostedDecember 12, 2013
Whenever I'm in the field, be it land surveying all week or on week ends chasing birds with my German shorthair pointer, this is my go to coat. It has stood up to everything I have thrown at for the last 6 or 7 years (minus one burn hole from a careless smoker#. To this day my coat is waterproof and does an excellent job in the briars and thorn patches that I encounter on a almost daily basis. the game bag will hold a limit of pa pheasant #2) with more then enough room to spare. The hand warmer pockets are in the perfect spot. The shell pockets and loops have also held up
I can say this is the best field coat I've ever owned and worth the money
