Excellent for hiking, biking, horseback riding. Simple, straightforward operation for those who simply want to go out for long (or short) excursions and make sure you can find your way back. Excellent satellite reception in forests, under trees, even in the house. Plenty of extra features for those who desire to use them. Solunar tables for fishing, sun/moon rise and set tables. Select North up; mark waypoints, and select "bearing line". At the "turnaround" point, select "TracBack" and it will guide you right back the way you came. Don't select "course line"-that just points toward your destination, not necessarily the way you came.
Easy to use, much more sensitive to the acquisition of satellites than my son-in-law's much more expensive gps when used on a hunting trip in the North Idaho mountains. Only thing I did not like was the slow way one has to follow to name waypoints. One can click off waypoints by number very quickly, but naming is a fairly long process.
Though not its original purpose, with the Etrex runners can at last check their speed and know acurately the distance they run without having to follow carefully measured trails. I don't even know the many other features of my etrex.
