Easy to use. "Track" capability is terrific for those of us following hunting dogs. Used Grouse hunting new territory in Mn, it kept me from getting very lost. I mark the parked car as a waypoint when I enter the covert and don't need to worry about being able to get back to it. It seems to receive well inside a shooting vest pocket.
Unit is pretty intuitive; using the manual and just playing around a bit I have a pretty good handle on it's use. I have installed the topo sd cards which are a great assistance when you are "off road" and make it easy to find yourself on USGS maps. I plan to use it this year to mark new coverts so I can get back to them in the future. I use it in the car as well as hand-held.
The unit is probably capable of more than I will ever use it for, but that helps give me confidence. Can be updated free from Garmin through USB to your personal computer.
The Legend HCx blows away my previous unit, a Cobra 500. The color screen is a great feature.
After some pre-purchase research I learned this unit uses the same sensor array as the 60CSx at twice the price.
As an avid Geocacher, this device has been spot on coordinates and is easy to read and has many viewer options on the screen. If you've ever used any GPS before, this one is very user-friendly to learn. Accuracy and reception have been excellent.
The USB/PC connection is great. I have been able to use third-party Geocaching waypoint services (GSAK) that can upload directly to the unit so there is no extra typing or fiddling with the joystick to load a series of hunts or tracks you wish to follow. I can't believe the hours I used to spend manually loading the old unit. This Legend is so easy now.
I would have given a 5-star rating, but I am reserving the final star because of the optional map feature. The base map does contain a lot of info on major roads and highways. Documentation claims you can easily load maps on to the unit and even use turn-by-turn directions, like a car GPS, one of the reasons I chose this one.
What it doesn't tell you is that you can't load it from the standard MapSource DVDs. To use that feature you must purchase regional maps that are preloaded on microSD cards by Garmin for specific areas of the country. At $90 a pop for a 5-6 state area, I think that's a bit outrageous, compared to the DVD of the entire country at $99.
Overall I am very happy with this choice and the LLBean store where I purchased it was very helpful.
It was impossible to easliy work your way around this device - and in the end, I could not get it to work nor could any other techy I know. I just sent it back - the last thing I need is a 'job' when I'm hiking and trying to stay safe.
