ProsDurable, Great Value, perform almost as expectd
I can only recommend this pack as the one that finally fits 99% of my daypack needs. My wife and I continually search for the perfect daypack, messenger bag, citypack, etc. This rucksack fits the bill for a comfortable-wearing, light yet full-featured, classic-looking rucksack. So many features to enjoy...retro/classic canvas/leather look, leather and brass closures, durability throughout, natural(?) padded shoulder straps, handy carry handle, and cool(airy)/padded/rigid support back. What is not to like about this rucksack? Well, okay, used it in a continuous downpour not long after receiving it. After about three hours in the rain, noticed it had certainly soaked up water and I had to drain some of the pockets. So, it certainly did not withstand extended rain exposure. However, next day it was ready to go again and looked just as good or better than the day before. Classic, versatile, great-looking, and comfortable all-in-one. Highly recommend this one to meet your needs for that "perfect rucksack."

You will never need, or want, another backpack

ProsDurable, Great Value, Performing as Expected
I purchased this rucksack back in 2006, and I used it on a daily basis for college. This thing can carry a lot of books, my laptop, and still fit a light jacket or sweater above the books.
This pack has so much character, and it only gains more over time. I've had some minor repairs done on it (due to too much single-shoulder use with lots of heavy books), which LL Bean paid a portion of (they offered to replace the bag for free, but it has sentimental value to me now. I love how they stand behind their guarantee).
The current version of this pack seems to differ from mine--mine has a leather drawcord, a brass zipper on the front outside pocket, and it also had much thicker leather straps. Despite the changes, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this bag in a second if I lost my current one--this bag will last a long, long time.

ProsDurable, Great Value, Performing as Expected
I used this pack to walk through the Sahara with two young Bedouin. It held everything I needed and performed flawlessly. The style and design were classic and not too flashy. Buy it, use it, enjoy it.

The Ultimate Back Pack
PostedOctober 19, 2010
ProsDurable, Great Value, Performing as Expected, super practicality, over the top style
This item maybe old school but this is the ultimate in small weather resistant back pack technology! Tradition is tradition because it has worked for many years. That is why it's tradition!
I am a freelance photo journalist and use this for laptop and tons of camera lenses, , equipment, etc. Regardless of how you pack it, 3 days in the woods, New York city, long weekend to Costa Rica, hiking the Appalachian Trail this is the most comfortable Light Pack I have found. And WOW it is so bloody stylish.
The only improvement I would suggest is putting zippers in the side pockets as well. "I Love This Pack"
