I've owned this rucksack for over three years. With lots of use, it shows no signs whatsoever of wear. It is very well made and extremely good looking.
There are two downsides, however. It is very heavy. It's not like ballistic nylon fabric at all. Keep the weight in mind. A big negative is: There is no H strap across the shoulder straps. The absence of the cross strap allows the pack to slowly slip down your shoulders requiring frequent readjustments while walking.
I've still rated it five stars because it is so sturdy and looks so good. I could make my own H strap, but haven't done it yet. I do think their absence is a significant over-site. I'm going to buy the virtually identical pack from LLBean in Nylon for everyday use.
Rucksack is exactly as described. Canvas is rugged. Leather and buckles are top notch. Appears it will last for years EXCEPT for one thing. Bean uses cheap plastic zippers like everyone else. If they had used robust metal zippers I would have given 5 Stars.
I bought this mainly to carry my laptop and books and of course it works extremely well for that not to mention all the extra accessories I might need for the day (including my lunch) Plus there are all the "Wow, cool! Where did you get that?" comments from other students. I ended up giving this particular one to my friend who fell in love with it and I am buying another one for me! I think I am also getting one for sister for her birthday this year. I know this may sound a bit obsessive, but its just THAT great of a product.
I bought this rucksack 6 or 7 years ago and I still use it on a daily basis to transport my 17" laptop along with books, or extra clothes to and from work. Many people have commented on how nice it is over the years, and I am still happy with it. There has been some fraying of seams on the straps, but as it's been with me all over the world, I consider this to be a minor issue, if that. It is quite waterproof. I highly recommend this product.
