I bought this kayak as my first kayak at the beginning of the year and have been able to try it out a good amount. Overall, I have enjoyed it and found it quite comfortable and a good buy for the price. When I was looking at kayaks to buy, a big worry was whether it could comfortably seat me as I'm 6'4". This one seems to fit me fine even with a little spare room. Another part of the design that I liked was the way it was built allows it to work well on both lakes and rivers(maybe more but those are to only ones I have access to). I find it easy to keep it on a straight course or make a turn. My only complaint is the back waterproof hatch opens to basically the whole inside boat, so if you want to keep stuff dry you need to get something to keep it waterproof. Also along the same line, water will come in if the waves are semi high and you'll need to buy a spray skirt for that. Although my guess is that for most casual outings, there's really no need for one. Overall though, I am really happy with it and feel like I made a good selection for my first kayak and that it should be able to adapt as I get better at it.
This kayak is a very stable/comfortable one with excellent features for the price. The shape of the bow and stern assist in staying on course on flat water, but can turn you quickly on river current. OK for class 1 or class 2 water, tho class 2 waves over a foot or so will require a skirt to keep from getting a lapful of water! See my review of the Extrasport touring Skirt recommended by LLBean. The paddle is of very good quality and adjustable as to paddle blade angle. Can't comment on the Harmony cockpit cover, as mine didn't come with the kayak. I,ll add that after I get mine.
This is a great product. I'm a beginner at kayaking and this kayak is perfect for me. I've used it twice -- easy to get in and out of and has terrific control. Before I placed the order, one of LL Bean's kayak specialists assisted me with all my questions and provided valuable information. From start to finish, this has been a great experience.
