Received my Active Trax Audio Player today. AM and FM reception is fine. Weather (wx) less so, but if you're interested in wx a dedicated radio or one with an accurate analog or digital tuner would be better.
I haven't tried the amplified speaker with an external audio source (iPod, netbook (running a GPS program), but the audio output and tone from this small speaker is impressive, especially if you have a high-frequency hearing loss like I do.
I've powered the radio by the small solar panel and crank, so far. In bright sunlight the solar panel provides enough power for good volume. Crank charging, too, although higher volume will require more cranks.
The included AC adaptor provides another power source for this little gizmo.
All in all, a "home run", especially at the sale price.
bought this to use with Ipod as my ears hurt when I use earbuds. work as a crossing guard and wanted to have a way to listen to music and hear what's going on around me. The volume on this very small speaker is fine next to a busy traffic intersection. I didn't realize the am/fm radio and weather band were part of this - thought it was just a mini speaker - yea for surprises
I find the Active Trax Audio Player a useful device for listening to audiobooks and podcasts from an MP3 player. The sound is not stereo, but I did not expect it to be. Light weight, charges easily through sun light in addition to a manual crank or plug-in electricity, it's a good for traveling.
I was surprised by how small this speaker is. The carrying case is great and is equiped with a convenient hook for your belt. The sound, of course, is not the best but is adequate for activities where you could not bring larger speakers (hiking, camping, etc.) The little gadgets like the wind-up handle and radio are quite handy. This is just a fun little product!
