A serious flaw
PostedJanuary 5, 2010
What nobody seems to mention in the reviews for this model is that in order to adjust the binding for different sized boots, you have to use a screwdriver and wrench. I understand that usually you buy snowshoes for a particular weight range, but shoes sizes do vary. Around here, a pair of snowshoes can be used by many people (for instance, my son will use my wife's snowshoes), and the idea of taking out tools to adjust the binding size doesn't make sense to me. There are four screws with nuts on each shoe that have to be loosened and then retightened. Even less expensive models available out there have simple adjustable bindings that work fine. Some even use strong elastic bands that work well.
If you are buying a pair of snowshoes for one person and you don't expect anyone else to use them, you might still like this shoe, but let me give you one warning. The screws have come loose on us in the middle of a hike, so when using these snowshoes we have had to carry a screwdriver and wrench because there is no way the shoe stays on once the heel of the binding slips backwards. We are in the process of returning this snowshoes for another brand.

this is a Christmas gift. They look to be of high quality. Looking forward to snowshoeing with my daughter and son-in-law whom we also gave snowshoes to. Always pleased with LLBean products

Snowshoe interrupted

I bought my women's winter walkers last January and used them once last winter and once last week when I noticed that one of the rivets on the straps of one shoe had popped off. Since I couldnt fix this myself, I returned them instead. I ordered the Tubbs women's frontier shoe instead with better construction and boot fit. Thanks LLBean for the great customer service and guarantee!!!

Having fallen several times, age 73, I was looking for something more than an over the shoe guard. LL Bean did not let me down ,once again. These snow shoes offer stability and easy acces. I would certainly reccomend these to those who have animals, love to walk, and live in high ice/snow areas such as here in Alaska
