I bought 12 miniflashlights -- one for everyone in the family. We keep it next to our bed, crank it one minute once each month, and always have light in case of emergency.
Small, bright, easy to crank -up. We have had them for a few weeks and they work great even with the kids. We can actually let them keep them on and not worry about batteries.
These are the greatest flashlights! You don't have to worry about dead batteries - if you're able to turn the crank, you've got light! I first saw this type of flashlight at a resort in Maine - they were in every room. My husband and I were so impressed, we bought one and this year I bought 3 to give as Xmas presents.
I bought 3 of these flashlights. One for me to keep in my car for emergencies and the other two to put in my son's Christmas stocking. I opened mine and cranked it up. It was very easy to do and the light was extremely bright. I was pleased just knowing I would not have to think about changing the battery. This is my initial reaction.
