I purchased 3 of these as Christmas gifts. and they were a big hit! Handy to have in the glove box since it's inevitable that batteries would be dead when you REALLY need a flashlight! Amazingly bright beam of light, seems sturdy and well made. Very comfortable grip and easy to crank. So far very happy with this item! This would be a great item for children, especially when on a camping trip!
Great Christmas Gift. I bought Red- Nice you don't need batteries. One worked at once. The 2nd won't stay on,but not worried as LLBean stands behind their goods.Know the replacement will work just fine. Already own the larger sized one for over a year.

My husband and I were tired of grabbing a flashlight when we needed it right away only to find that the light was dim or the batteries were dead! We wanted a crank flashlight so we would not have to worry ever again about batteries failing. I read all of the reviews on this mini crank light, some were good reviews, some were bad. I took a chance and purchased one for us. We were so impressed with its performance that I ordered 30 (thirty) more and gave them to my family members and friends as Christmas '09 gifts. They all LOVE it!! My brother took his hunting the other day. He said it was "too bright" for hunting!! He loves it though for general uses. We are avid outdoorspersons. We love to camp, hike, and backpack. My husband "field tested" his mini-crank light back in Sept.09 backpacking in the Tetons and again in Nov.'09 when he went on a jungle trek in Venezuela. He was impressed with the light and reported that is was bright and lightweight! No more heavy batteries to carry around that add weight to the pack! Most importantly, he had a flashlight that performed well. When your out in the middle of nowhere backpacking alone, you have to trust that your equipment will do its job well.
