THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST DESIGN FOR A LANTERN I,VE SEEN YET. THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE WIRES RUN THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE LANTERN. THE WIRES ARE SAUTERED TO THE SOLAR PANEL. IF THE TOP OF THE LANTERN COMES OFF AND IT WILL.THE LANTERN IS DONE FOR.GREAT IDEA. VERY POOR DESIGN
Throws enough light for hanging around, general camp lighting. Seems to throw exactly the same amount of light at 1/2 and full power, no reason to use full power. Left it in the sun charging during the day and then left it on all night and it was still going strong in the morning.
A friend purchased this lantern from another source and loved it. I read reviews about crank handle falling off, and sure enough, mine did the FIRST TIME I used it. I was amazed how small the screw holding the crank handle was and that a bolt was not used. Being handy, I was able to reattach the handle, but others might not want to do so. Light from the lantern is decent and the price is right, but...
Love the light on this, the crank, the solar capability. All's well.
But it's construction is pretty shoddy. The solar panel came loose on the first two I got, without ever having used them. It still works, but it hangs there. Also, the screw came out of the handle the day I first used it.
Having said that, they've replaced them quickly and without question. Great customer service. I just think this is a cheaply-made lantern.
