This looks like a cool item since it is both solar and crank power. However, when it was delivered, the top was not on and could not be secured. I will now need to take it back to exchange. The price is low so I'll keep it when I get a new one. I was most concerned with it putting out enough light but it seems like it will work fine inside a tent to play cards with the kids.
This does as it says. A great lantern for those who don't want to fool around with batteries. The crank supplies enough energy to light the LEDs different lengths of time depending on how long you wind it. I found it to be quite accurate with how long the light lasts. It is a very bright white light similar to what you get with florescent lights not soft white light as with incandescent bulbs.
I bought many of these as gifts. They fell apart. I was embarrassed and dissapointed. First time in a thousand that an LL Bean product did not perform - I managed to return a couple of these flimsy things, but at least one was thrown away during a camping trip after it fell apart on day 1.
