What a great find! Was starting to despair of finding a crank latern that didn't cost a small fortune, but here it was a Bean. Light, seems well made, and the crank works quite easily. My 8 year old loves doing the cranking, so that makes it even better!
Junk, alot of winding for very little light. The small LL Bean wind and go flashlight puts out the same amount of light for alot less winding. Don't waste your money on this lantern.
This lantern exceeds our criteria to replace an old broken rechargeable lantern we used for camping and back yard fun since it is solar powered in addition to being rechargeable. We did run into trouble when the winding crank would not turn (not sure what happened to it) but it was cheerily and speedily replaced. Light is bright enough to read or play cards by, and lasts a long time after winding for short time. Can be hung or set on ground or table top. Very versatile, just what we hoped.
Great lantern -- like all the methods of charging: crank, solar, car. Worked well for us on an overnight camping trip with kids. Stuck it in the tent attic on its side and there was plenty of light for the 6-person tent. Didn't use up its charge on such a short trip, so can't comment on that aspect. First one we got had a broken handle, so I worry that the plastic might be a bit prone to break if handled roughly, but LL Bean replaced immediately.
