"I only got to use it a couple times this hiking season... but it works nicely except when there are not enough minerals in the water. A couple streams I got water from would not enable the unit to turn on (i.e., the unit didn't realize it was in the water due to lack of minerals necessary.) So... bring a few pinches of salt with you so you can add a pinch to each bottle of water to ensure the unit turns on."

"I purchased the SteriPEN Adventure to provide an easier means of purifying water while visiting Mali in Africa. A colleague of mine had just completed the 2175 miles of the AT, and raved about his SteriPEN. I used the SteriPEN for 3 solid weeks, purifying not less than three or four liters of water each day. In all that time, I never suffered from the usual stomach ailments typical of previous trips. African water is notoriously full of every nasty stomach bug imaginable. SteriPEN won't filter, and you can't remove toxic chemicals, but waterborne bugs are history. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!"
