I just got back from a week out west and this was the ONLY long-sleeve shirt I took. It was perfect on all counts:
1) VERSATILITY: Can be worn "open" as a jacket, and on warm days the sleeves roll up nicely and can be secured with the button strip.
2) QUALITY: The wonderfully soft fabric held up great with NO PILLING. I handwashed the shirt in the hotel sink, hung it up and it was dry by morning! Needs no ironing. And the SPF is a great bonus!
3) APPEARANCE & FIT: All the colors are gorgeous. I took the Shell Pink on my trip, but also purchased the shirt in Pale Blue and Tropical Orange, because the colors are too pretty to resist! I am a standard Size 8, and the Medium fits great. Really appreciate the generous sleeve length, as it protects tops of hands from sun. LOVE the matching, rubberized buttons!
4) SLIMMING EFFECT: Ladies, are you listening? This shirt will take 10 pounds off you! I look at the photos of myself from the trip, and can't believe it's me!
I have worn the Tropicwear shirts for years and loved them. The current version has heavier fabric so I find myself getting hot when I would have stayed cool in the older shirts. Since I wanted a shirt I could wear in the sun on the hot, humid days we get around the mid-Atlantic, I find I can't wear these shirts and reach for my older ones instead. The shirt just doesn't seem to breathe. Others didn't seem to experience this problem, but perhaps they had not worn the older version.
I agree with other comments that the buttons are extremely hard to use. But unlike others, I found the fit true to size for a medium. Its still a decent shirt for sun protection, but not good for staying cool in very hot weather.
The new styling is wonderful, more dressy and stylish. I need to wear these shirts for sun protection, not camping. I can now walk around shopping in quaint villages and not feel like I just left the back woods. I did buy a size smaller than the old style. Like other reviews, the buttons are hard to use, I like the old ones better.
