I've received compliments on my shirt--the fabric, color and look. It's comfortable and keeps me cool on a hot day. I expect to get a lot of wear out of it all year long.
For a shirt designed for sun protection, the medium was perfect in the shoulders, but I had to take out the tucks in the back and it was still snug in the hips. Designed for hot weather, why make it so fitted. It also will probably be worn over a tee shirt so needs to be a little loose.
This is my 2nd Tropicwear shirt, it's just as terrific as the first one which I wore for over 10 years before retiring. I've always worn this type of shirt more as a jacket, over a tank or T-shirt. Light yet durable fabric that never needs ironing (a huge plus) provides just enough weight to be comforable in an air conditioned restaurant or airport and yet is super light when needing sun protection outdoors...I carry it everywhere with me during the summer months! I love the new roll up sleeves with fastener feature. The fit is a little more trim now (not boxy like the old one) which I like however I have a slim build so it suits me.
This butter yellow shirt is rapidly becoming a favorite for the color and fabric feel. Very comfortable and soft, and the shade is flattering. Makes a terrific outfit with the cornflower blue capris in the same line. Washes like a charm. BUT: The fit in the chest could be a little more generous. LL Bean shirts are not cut that well for busty women -- in fact the short sleeved version of the shirt was way too tight across my chest in the same size. I wish they would make it more of a "swing" yoke in the back like on the men's versions. My main complaint is one I have about ALL LL Bean women's garments. Why can't you finish the inside sleeve and leg seams nicely, as you do in your men's clothing of the same models and pricing? When I roll up the sleeves and legs of the clothes, it is tacky and unattractive to have a raw or overcast edge showing. This is particularly annoying when you have a style like this one DESIGNED to have the sleeves rolled up (with the snap tabs.)
Please start using clean flat felled or French seams on your women's garments. I sometimes rip the seams out and restitch them myself, but I resent having to do this on a shirt or pants I have paid almost $50 for.
Also, the bulky nylon snaps that hold down the collar points seem unnecessary and rub against my skin when I button it up all the way to block bugs and sun. I fail to understand why the shirt designer thought they were a good idea.
Truly, I love many of my LL Bean clothes, but they really need to improve both their fit and attention to detail on the women's lines. We are not just looking for throwaway "fashion", we want durable, attractive garments that fit well and are finished nicely. Close, but not yet there.
