The elastic is comfortable and the harness is fully adjustable. First, put the two metal circle fasteners on the ends, then attach your binoculars. Put your shoulders through the harness and then adjust it to fit your body. It is such a useful harness my birdwatching best friend bought one, too!
I am very happy with this harness! It certainly takes the weight off of my neck, and it is easy to quickly grab the binoculars and pull them up to your eyes. I did not give it a rating of 5 because of the mounting rings that come with the harness. The rings are much too thick and very hard to get on the binoculars. Until LL Bean can design thinner rings, throw them away and use a zip tie instead. I actually damaged my binoculars trying to get the rings on.
There were many available on numerous websites. This one seemed a good one, especially for the total price (including shipping), and it has worked just fine in several uses.
