This worked well as a gift. It is environmentally friendly, healthy, and extra special if you get it engraved. I thought the engraving was free as an LLBean card holder but that's only for embroidery. That was disappointing but to make the gift extra special we got the engraving anyway which made the bottle more expensive that we wanted. Overall, I'd buy it again.
I love the engraving. I haven't seen how it wears, but the block lettered personalization was a great hit. I do wish they could put more than 10 letters though. I don't know how he did it, but my 3 year old got water down his shirt. It was probably user error.
I really like the Bean sport top for my metal canteen. It's nice being able to pull off the cover and drink without touching the mouth piece. The only problem is occasionally, the lid will get bumped and it will leak a bit. But, overall, it works great.
