I bought this jacket (black Large) because I liked that it would fit closer than my regular Polartec 200 jacket. I wanted something a little less outdoorsy looking. I always get an LLBean large and the large fits, although it fits closer than my other jackets. It's not too small though. The fit is flattering and the sleeves are a bit long, which I like, but every time I wear it, I find I'm a little bit cold. It's just not that warm. I have to be sure it's not on the cold side, even for So Cal, because if it is, I'll need my bulkier Polartec 200 jacket instead.
I want to write a review because I so appreciated reading the previous reviews on this jacket, specifically sizing, saying it fits snug.
I usually find LLBean's clothes fit on the large size, but based on reading that this jacket fits snug, I ordered a larger size than normal. I ordered a Small rather than Extra Small. It's not that small fitting, I would have been fine with the Ex-Small, but I do agree that with a thick sweater or fleece underneath it will be fine for in the winter. I might regret getting the larger size when wearing it in warmer weather, but it hangs quite nicely and doesn't look baggy, so I'm keeping the larger size.
I did say I'd recommend to a friend, because it is a very nice jacket, but only to a friend with a much different build than I have. I bought a medium (my usual size) and the body fit more like a shirt than a jacket, and the arms didn't let me move well at all, so I returned for a large. The large had more than enough body room, but still far too little freedom of movement in the arms and shoulders for a jacket marketed for active pursuits. I am 5' 8", small-chested, but trim and somewhat athletic in build. I loved the green color. My friends at work wanted to see it, so I took it in, but all agreed the fit wasn't worth the price.
