I was excited to see this coat go on sale and rushed to buy it. When I got it, the coat was too small, even though I ordered my normal size. I was quite disappointed...the circumference was way too little and it draped funny. The length was shorter than I had expected for a "boot-length" coat also. I noticed that there was a lot of static associated with it. Sadly, I returned the the coat. I'll have to stick with other coats I've ordered from L.L. Bean. I've been happy with them.
I have no problems with this coat. What you see is what you get. The picture clearly illustrates that the neck is open and there's a high opening below the bottom button. So yes, you might need a scarf on a bitter cold day. And yes, the hood is loose fitting, but I like that....who wants to be closed in around the head like a kid in a snowsuit? If you line the zipper up correctly it will work just fine. The majority of reviewers state a problem with sizing and that is correct. Everyone is different, but for ME, the large is a perfect fit and I always take a medium in every style. The coat is adaptable to wear at most events. I disagree with those who think its quality is less than. I'm fussy and I love this coat. The quality is well worth the cost. I don't agree that it's a stiff material; rather, it feels like a soft cozy blanket on a cold winter night. Love it!
My husband bought me this coat for Christmas and I love it! It's very warm and comfortable. I love it so much that I will be buying another one in different color. I wear it on the coldest nights and it really keeps me warm. I love the fact that it can be machine washed because I hate paying for dry cleaning! I found this coat to be sort of stiff and uninviting. Runs a bit small in the tushy too! Returned it and kept my old one without a hood that actually came from LLBean too, is marked the same size but is NOT small in the tush. Go figure.
