I NEVER find boots that fit both my feet and calves. I have wide feet and athletic calves from years of biking and hiking. These boots fit both my feet and my calves (with a little room to spare for socks!). They are classic and understated. I lucked out by finding a wide size in an outlet store, but I'm considering buying more pairs even if I have to pay full price (something I RARELY do!). A definite buy... but only if you do not wear a size 8W.. leave those for me;)
I received these for Christmas this year, and couldn't be happier with them! It's always a bit of a gamble ordering shoes or boots online, but these fit perfectly - I usually take a 6, 6 1/2 or 7, and I ordered these in a 6 1/2 - perfect fit!
I agree with other reviewers about the calf shaft being rather wide - my calves aren't especially skinny or anything, but the boots are at least an inch too big around at the calf. It doesn't really bother me, but just be forewarned that unless you've got really large calves, these won't be a skintight fit.
The footbed is cushy and sturdy. Not quite as ample and padded as some other brands (Born or Dansko, for example), but much more comfortable than any standard department store shoes.
After just a couple days of wear, the toe and ankle areas are just beginning to show creases in the leather. This strong, broken-in look is what I'm going for (and remember, "broken-in" = comfy!), but if you're looking for a shoe that stays pristine and new-looking forever, these might not be the ones!
I can tell already that I'll have - and treasure - these boots for years. They're a great investment piece, and fall firmly in line with the quality that I've come to expect of LLBean!
Loved the look of the boot! Love the low sturdy heel, soles and calf width (I ordered the wide calf version). Found the leather alittle stiff-hopes it softens up. The zipper sticks alittle. However, good price to pay for water-resistent, fashionable looking tall leather boot.
These boots are wonderful! I have large calves which make it EXTREMELY difficult to find boots that fit over them. These boots have wide enough shafts for even my calves.
I know that the wide shaft diameter is a bone of contention with other reviewers, but if you have thicker calves, get these!
The leather is nice and soft, but I do agree that they would look better with a bit of a grain to them.
They have lots of foot room, so socks are recommended if you don't want the boots to flop around on your feet.
