Got one pair at a regular store in black and found a brown pair at the outlet store -- a great deal indeed. I wear these with opaque tights all the time -- keeps my legs warm in the chilly wind yet stays cool enough to wear all day in the office. I'm petite, so I was pleased to find that the calves fit well. Very nice.
I usually wear a C width, which is fine if you wear a lot of Dansko or Berkinstocks, but hard if want Bean's but I found that the wide width works just great for me. I wear an extra sock, not hard for me as my feet freeze even in summer. The calves worked perfect too as mine are somewhat developed due to riding a lot in my younger years. Quality is perfect wouldn't trade for any of my Born boots. If unsure as to which size call ahead and talk to a customer rep, they're very friendly and will find a way to help you.
I selected these boots because I'm pregnant and needed something with a low heel, zipper and with good treading for bad weather. This item delivered. I have athletic calves (I'm normally a size 4 in clothing) and agree that the calves are a bit large on the boots and cannot be worn with skirts. BUT, with jeans they look great! I would recommend buying long socks (up to your knees) for the boots. Works great because there's room for socks over your jeans (socks keep jeans in place... no bunching around your leg or hiking around the knee) and it's a nice look to have the socks peeking over the top of the boots. The leather is very smooth and would look better with a slight grain (why I gave this a 4 star). Thinking about getting them in black as well as the nut brown I purchased.
