I have worn this bike riding, and it really does keep out the wind. Much better at that than the heavy sweatshirt I have been wesring. This jacket feels light to wear, yet is warmer than expected. Runs small (I have a closet full of LL Bean tops in "small" and neeeded to get this in "medium"). I don't like the soft rubber zipper pulls, but that is very minor. I like the fact that the pockets have zippers, so my gloves won't fall out. I'm thinking of getting the stand-up collar version of this jacket in a different color.
I purchased this jacket for the upcoming Spring weather. I was a bit concerned about the sizing after reading the comments stating it ran large and the sleeve length was off. I wear a size 4 and the XS fits me perfectly! No issues with the sizing, plenty of room for a light layer underneath. Jacket is very well constructed and I am very pleased with my purchase.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this jacket! I bought it on my first ever physical trip to LLBean (shop on-line) because my parka was too warm to wear while shopping and it has been great! Even now that I am back home in Canada, I am still wearing it on errands with the car (even in -40 temps) and it is still warm enough because of the windproof feature. I got the one with a hood because WHY would you get a jacket without one! I haven't tried washing it yet but that will come soon. So if you are looking for a nice, comfy, windproof jacket, this is what you are looking for ... and I love the inside pockets - great for a cellphone or IPod!
This looked like the perfect wind blocking fleece for outdoor exercise walks in the cold. However, the construction has been a disappointment compared to the quality of most LL Bean products. The pocket zippers completely separate when unzipped, so i've stopped using the pockets. There is no way to adjust the hood, so it constantly blows off in the wind. You also can't tighten the wrists on the sleeves.
