You will be very pleased how lightweight this jacket is, even though it provides sufficient warmth for the coldest part of winter. Great for outside work when you don't want a lot of bulky clothing.
I was disappointed in this item when it arrived. It's not the supple, soft fleece I was expecting and was actually stiff and uncomfortable when I tried it on. I couldn't imagine it would ever actually be pliable and loosen up, so I returned it. It was definitely a disappointment and am wondering if my knowledge of the nuances of fleece vocabulary is lacking or if there is a way to educate customers on the science of fleece - deep pile, no pile, medium, etc. Perhaps I missed something in the online description that would have warned me ahead of time, as I was looking for a more flexible, pliable material in a jacket. I ended up shopping locally and purchasing another brand of jacket with features I wanted.

The Best Fleece ever. Soft, light weight, warm, windproof, great pockets, zipper covering your chin, and a hood with ample room but stays put and is just right around your face, when jacket is zipped up. Good quality and very well made. The Red color is gorgeous. My first test was when I wore it shoveling snow with only a mid-weight underwear underneath at -10C (+14F) and I was sweating when I finished. 2nd test - wore it under a light winter coat with a mid-weight underwear for an hour walk with my dog, in -20C (-4F) with the wind factor, and it kept me nice & warm. I usually have to wear 3 layers with this winter coat. The jacket is not bulky under a coat. Sizing was difficult for me to figure out. It was my second purchase from LLBean. A good fit for me can be anywhere from a medium to XLarge, depending on the manufacturer & style. The reviews helped, especially those that gave their weight, height, body shape, & fit. I’m 5’1” and 155 lbs, small at the shoulder/chest area and chubby in mid-area. I got a Misses Large and it fits great. The sleeves are a bit long, but that is not an issue for me. The jacket is not as tailored as the majority of fleece, but it still has style. The current fashion of tailored fit jackets & coats makes it difficult for me to find something that I am comfortable in and still fits nice. Those of you that are slim with thin waist, order a size smaller. Debated whether to get this jacket with or without the hood. Definitely worth the extra $ to get the hood. I’ll get a lot of wear out of this jacket and will buy another. Thanks LLBean for a great product.
