What can I say, love it, love it, love it. After reading the reviews I decided to order a size up. It's great - a light-weight fleece fits very comfortably under this shell.
I've been looking for a Gore-Tex jacket for birding, hiking, and cross-country skiing. I thought this would be perfect, but it's way too noisy. Just bending my arm was really loud! I returned it without even wearing it outside. I ordered one size up from my usual and it was a good fit.

If you're still looking for a jacket, you might consider our Stowaway Jacket with Gore-Tex, which is also waterproof and breathable. By nature, nylon creates some sound, but the Stowaway's softer nylon fabric is somewhat quieter than the fabric in the Ascent.

I wanted a jacket for sking, snowshoeing,sledding and snowboarding that would be comfortable, warm and light weight (if outdoors for more than 4 hours). First, I purchased the polartec ascent fleece (which happened to be on sale at a great price) to use as an inner layer if needed. Second, I became very lucky when buying the ascent gore tex proshell jacket at a steal ( I have been saving for a while to purchase one) I purchased two of them. I tried all colors before chosing the sporty looking royal blue. The fit was perfect. I love the way it looks on me. The jacket so far has kept me warm in the bitter cold (with the fleece) and dry (in the rain). I love hiking, walking and being outdoors in all types of weather. So far, I have used the jacket for all occasions everyday. I am totally satisfied. I wish they had matching rain/snow pants. Thank you LLBean for another great product.

It's really an amazing shell. Gore-Tex is the only way to go for outdoor gear. I can wear this all day in the rain and never feel clammy. The size runs too small, so I'm going to buy a men's shell for my winter sports needs. The women's jacket doesn't allow for layering AND movement, both of which are a must. I'm going to keep it for warmer weather though so I'm not lost in a tent sized men's jacket.
