I've purchased two of the Wrinkle Resistand Pinpoint Oxfords and both have shown tremendous wear after a year of wearing twice a month. The cuffs, the front placket, and the neck all have the fabric worn down.
I am happy with LL Bean's return policy, though, so both are going back for refunds.
I've bought a number of the pinpoint oxford cloth shirts. Beautiful fabric and they look good right out of the dryer. Very well made. But every one I've bought has had durability problems. After about nine months of wash and wear they start to come apart. The first place to go is the fabric at the cuffs. The fabric on the sleeves seems to disintegrate right where the cuffs are sewn on. First, there will be small holes at the pleats and these holes turn into long tears along the seam. They look like they've been razor-bladed.
Assuming the cuffs are not too far gone, the next thing to go are the sleeves. Right on the crease the fabric disintegrates just as though someone cut it with a razor blade. I don't know if its some chemical used for the no-iron finish, or what. But it's happened to every one of these shirts that I've bought. LL Bean is always very good about replacing them for free, but the replacements do just as poorly. I do wish they'd last longer. And I can't in good conscience expect Bean to always replace them for free -- no shirt lasts forever -- so I usually buy replacements after Bean replaces them free twice.
On the plus side, you don't have to worry about them getting frayed because they don't last long enough.
I love these shirts; easy to care for, good fit. My only complaint is if you wear a tie with these shirts there is a tag on the collar that becomes itchy and irritating. The tag serves no purpose, it should be eliminated for better comfort.
Try it just once you'll find yourself doing like I do ...... keep on adding to my collection. My only criticism is LLBean should add the color pink, lavender, lilac and bright plaid colors.. etc to this Classic Dress Shirt and also make all colors available in "slightly fitted". I'll purchase every new color you manufacture.
