This hammock is excellent quality and a super value. We are repeat buyers of this cotton hammock from LLBean. Purchased the first one about 10 years ago when we moved from Ohio to S. Carolina. It lasted through the southern monsoons, 300% humidity, and the mother of all ice storms in 2014. We never babied it in any way. Everything in the South either rots, corrodes, or mildews. This hammock gave us excellent performance. Soft and comfortable. Easily adjustable for height. We are lucky to have 2 large pine trees about 14 ft. apart, so we don't need to use a stand. Hubby kept asking "When is my new hammock coming?" so I decided to give him his Father's Day gift a little early. This hammock is a bargain -- go for it!
SIZE: The hammock is too long for the hammock stand. I weigh 135 lb. We have it in the tightest setting. I am centimeters from the ground / bar. When my 35 lb 3-year-old sits with me, I can carefully shift our position so we're not completely on the ground/bar...... Me only hope: is the cotton supposed to shrink like those cotton rope bracelets we used to wear at the beach in the summer? If so, that should be abundantly clear in the ad and the packaging. Then it would be a cool science experiment. My curiosity makes me keep it... for now.
.........2. QUALITY: If you have never had a great hammock, you'll probably be satisfied with the quality. I'm used to thicker cotton rope and heftier oak crossbars. The hardware feels like good quality.
....... L.L.Bean, you disappointe me with this one. Please fix this one.
Just to let any folks looking for a hammock and hammock stand know, that I purchased my Hatteras Cotton Hammock and metal stand from LLBean in 1990, 25 years ago, and it is still in near perfect condition. Over these past 25 years, there was only ONE time that the hammock was left out in the rain by accident, I always brought it inside any night rain was forecast. I tried to leave the hammock and stand in the shade for most of the days when it was outside. Notice the LLBean dark green pillow, NOT FADED because I took it in the house also and rarely left it out in the sun.
The metal tube stand is extremely heavy duty and eventually began to rust some over last few years because it was always set up in the grass for the entire spring and early summer and consequently it was rained on, so this spring, finally, I sanded with steel wool the rusted spots, primed and spray painted the stand. Just set it up today and it looks fantastic! The only thing I could use would be some new end caps but not sure if I can find them anywhere. The plastic end caps have discolored some over the years probably from sun damage.and I would like to find some replacement ones. This is of minor consequence after 25 years. Other than that, this hammock is the best one on the market, bar none. I set it up this year for the first time NOT in the grass because one does have to move it slightly every couple days or it will kill the grass where the stand is resting. Of course that has nothing to do with stand or hammock quality.
I have purchased excellent Hatterass Hammocks via LL Bean for many years, for self and as Christmas gifts for family members. The average life span for these...in northern California was10 years. An excellent buy.
The replacement hammock I received did not conform to the mesurements stated on the website. The QUALITY of the COTTON ropes was very poor, soft and stretched out. The knots were visible, uneven and loose. The over all quality was very very poor. I RETURNED IT. Then I talked to the Hatterass company in North Carolina and they told me to look on the box to see if the item was made in USA or an import from China or India. Sure enough, it was an imported item.
I hope LLBean finds a higher quality product and reinstates the smaller hammock, both shorter and slightly narrower (11' long)
