Prior to purchase we debated rope or canvass for the hammock. Comfort, durability, appearance, all were discussed. I am glad that we opted for a rope hammock although I had lovvied for canbass.
I am happy with this hammock. It is comfortable and well built. The only negative is it is on the short side. I am 6' and my head and feet are close to the bars. My last hammock was a little longer.
This is our third LL Bean Hammock, each of the first two having lasted about 10 years each. I doubt this one will last two years. I was happy that the price was still reasonable but disappointed with the quality of the rope and the downsizing of the links used for the chain. The oak stretchers appear to be of the same quality as our previous hammocks and the varnish and overall finish are good. The rope used to make the "bed" of the hammock, really appears to be of a much lighter strength and thickness. I wonder how long this one will last before I get breaks. When I first put the hammock up I actually thought I was shipped the smaller version and double checked both my order acknowledgement and the shipping paperwork.
I've bought LL Bean hammocks for years. They were always comfortable and I loved the fact that they were USA-made. When the last one wore out a few years ago, we replaced it with the present model. It looks the same, but is just awful!! So uncomfortable that no one in the family will ever use it - both adults and kids alike. What happened??? Is it the fact that they are imported, with no quality control, or has the design changed? I'll be getting my next one elsewhere I'm sorry to say. And soon.
