There are two parts to quality, the materials and the design. This very poor on the latter. The fit around the head is fine but the hat is too tall, if I pulled it down so the crown fitted it would cover my eyes. I have a similar hat from another well know outdoor store and it fits great by comparison -not Gortex though.
Purchased for my husband and he loves it! The hat fits well, is very comfortable and warm. Occasionally I use it to go out and shovel snow and I agree, the ear flaps are wonderfully soft and warm.
I just purchased my second hat of this type. The one I purchased several years ago looked pretty much like my new one, but fit a little tight, even though they are the same size, XXL. I have a very large head and find it very difficult to find a big enough hat, so I was pleased that this new hat was roomier than the old one. I did notice that the tag on the old one said XXL unisex and this one just says XXL. The thing I really look for in a winter hat is to provide warmth, but be small enough to roll up and put in the pocket of my winter coat. This hat works very well in this respect. I think the Gortex layer does a lot as far as wind chill resistance without adding a lot of bulk. There are only two negative things I have to say about this hat. The first is that the front of the hat tends to run too far down the forehead and actualy gets in the way of my glasses. But because this hat is roomier than my old one, it is not so bad if I leave a little slack in the flaps. The other negative thing is that the flaps secure with velcro. I would prefer something a little more substantial to fasten the straps together, like a metal clip or snap.. In fact, the only reason I needed a new hat was because the velcro on the old one is wearing out and the flaps will no longer stay together. The rest of the hat is really not showing any wear.
