My dog is smart and obedient, but he is a slob when it comes to his water dish. This place mat catches the splashes and dribbles and it is easy to keep clean. It turns out that my dog must be able to read, because I put his name on the place mat and he went right to it for his food and water. Another typical excellent product from L.L. Bean.
Our Dog Samson is such a messy eater. He dribbles all over when he drinks. This is absolutely the best pet mat ever. We have purchased several before this one and there is no comparison. Nothing my dog spills comes through the other side. It soaks up everything. It cleans up nice as well. We love it so much we are purchasing another one for our second home. It's worth your while to buy this mat.
I got this for my yellow lab mix and it has held up pretty well, although I will say that a) pet hair really gets caught in it and b) water still splashes a bit since the bowl hugs the mat so closely. Also, the green (which I got) is very hard to read the personalization on. I can barely read it, which kind of defeats the purpose! I wish I had gotten the blue.
Another annoying thing - it's supposedly not washable. Well, my dog was a rescue, and she had a few accidents in her crate, which is right beside this mat...needless to say, it HAD to be washed, and it did fray a bit. I think it should be a given that anything for pets should be washable!
I was so excited to get this item and have been just as disappointed. I will admit our border collie isn't the neatest of dogs when it comes to drinking which is why I was so glad to read about this product. After reading all the reviews, I am starting to wonder about the item. I am constantly cleaning up water from around the mat. When she is finished drinking, I literally have to drain the mat. What am I doing wrong? Other than the water problem, I love the mat and so does my dog!!
